How Do I Pack My FlyBox Securely?

Follow these tips for safe and secure packing:

  • Place heavier items at the bottom of the box

  • Wrap fragile items individually

  • Fill empty spaces with padding to prevent shifting

  • Keep your FlyBox under 60 lbs to avoid overweight fees

  • Use the provided cardboard topper and zip tie locks to secure your FlyBox before shipping

How Do I Secure My FlyBox?

Each FlyBox comes with everything you need to secure it for transport.

Steps to secure your FlyBox:

  1. Ensure the lid is flat and properly closed

  2. Place the cardboard topper on top

  3. Insert the locks through the marked holes

  4. Pull the ties tight and trim off any excess

Tip: Tug on each lock to confirm it's tightly sealed before shipping.

Is There a Weight Limit for FlyBoxes?

Yes. Each FlyBox has a 60-pound weight limit.

  • A $15 overweight fee applies if your box exceeds 60 lbs (for both outbound and return shipping)

  • Boxes over 90 lbs may be refused by FedEx

Tip: Distribute heavier items across multiple FlyBoxes to avoid issues and added fees.

What Materials Should I Use to Protect My Items?

Use the following materials to cushion and protect your belongings:

  • Bubble wrap – Provided by FlyBox

  • Packing paper or foam padding – Not included, but recommended for delicate or valuable items

  • Towels or soft clothing – Can serve as additional padding if needed

Are FlyBoxes Waterproof?

FlyBoxes are highly durable and water-resistant, but not fully waterproof.

  • If your FlyBox will be placed outdoors before pickup, we recommend covering it for protection

  • Once in storage, your items are kept in climate-controlled, secure facilities

  • Prefer to keep your FlyBox indoors until pickup?
You can add special instructions in the app when scheduling—FedEx will be notified to ring your doorbell or follow the directions you provide

Can I Place an AirTag or Tracking Device in My FlyBox?

Yes. You are welcome to place an Apple AirTag or other tracking device inside your FlyBox.

Note: FlyBox does not open or inspect sealed boxes, so be sure your tracker is activated and charged before sealing the box.

What Items Are Prohibited or Not Recommended?

For safety, legal, and insurance reasons, certain items may not be stored in FlyBoxes, and others are strongly discouraged.

Prohibited Items

The following items may not be stored in FlyBoxes under any circumstances:

  • Perishable goods or food

  • Flammable, explosive, or hazardous materials

  • Illegal substances or contraband

  • Firearms or ammunition

  • Live plants or animals

  • Lithium-ion batteries

  • Cash, gift cards, or other forms of currency

  • Any items prohibited by FedEx shipping guidelines

Storing prohibited items is a violation of our service terms and may result in denial of service. For a complete list of restricted items, please refer to FedEx’s Prohibited and Restricted Items.

Strongly Discouraged Items

While not explicitly banned, we strongly discourage storing items that are irreplaceable or extremely valuable, including:

  • Fine jewelry

  • Luxury handbags or accessories

  • Collectibles or heirlooms

  • Original documents or legal papers

  • High-value electronics

  • Designer or limited-edition goods

FlyBox is a secure and climate-controlled service, but we recommend that items with significant sentimental or market value be stored or transported through specialized services designed for those needs.
